The Duties of a Politician
More aptly - The Role of Government:
What’s their role? Why are they there? Why was their very JOB invented?
Where I like to cut to the chase on a subject, I refer you to the very ‘foundation’ of our Republic. In our Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson declared for all Americans then and in the future:
”We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are
created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with
certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty
and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights,
Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just
powers from the consent of the governed.”
Thus we see the ‘purpose’ of government and the people we hire (elect) are mandated and directed as to what their JOB and their duty is. They exist for the purpose of securing and protecting our “unalienable Rights”. Their “duty”, their mandate, their purpose and their responsibility, to those who grant them authority (that’s you) over others, is to protect our Rights. This doesn’t mean that ‘they’ granted you these Rights. Rights aren’t gifts from a government to a Citizen, thus, it’s not in their power or authority to limit or take away those Rights through all manner of regulation, law, entitlement to others or sending you a bill by way of increased taxation for the enjoyment of these Rights.
Despite the aforementioned “duty” (their ‘Prime Directive’, if I can borrow that phrase from SciFi) being to protect our Rights, almost everyday these people, sent forth for this purpose, seem hell bent on further limiting our Rights or taking them away completely - acting completely contrary to their agreed to role & duty.
Entitlements are not Rights. People (citizens and/or illegals) have no Rights to a state supplied income or a state supplied place to live or state supplied health care or many other expectations provided by the nanny state. Corporations have no Rights to tax breaks, incentives or preferential treatment in their business dealings over their competitors. These aren’t Rights. They’re ‘entitlements’ and in order to grant these entitlements to people and corporations, unable or unwilling to secure these things for themselves through honest work and responsible behavior, these political opportunists must TAKE away from you & I, what we’ve gained (through honest work and responsible behavior) with the intent to secure OUR futures and those of our children.
As a result of this loss of focus relating to their “duty” and why we placed them in their jobs, our Rights are being systematically wiped out for all manner or nonsensical reasons.
Now, contrary to the 1st Amendment & your Right to free speech and assembly, your government forces you into “free speech zones”, behind wire fencing if you wish to protest or say anything they don’t want you to say. Contrary to the 2nd Amendment & your Right to keep and bear arms, your government limits just ‘who’ can enjoy this Right and then they charge you a fee (license) to actually “bear” arms. Contrary to the 4th Amendment & your Right to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects and your Right to be secure from unreasonable searches and seizures, we have warrantless searches and your government can now ‘legally’ seize your computer, phone or any digital media and share the contents with any government agency, organization or employee without any kind of warrant. The 5th & 6th Amendments, your Right not to be forced to incriminate yourself or your Right to a fair and public trial, if you’re accused of a crime, are GONE as a result of the Patriot Acts and Military Commission acts passed by this government. The 8th Amendment is history since we now accept that the government can torture the hell out of you to force you to say what they want you to say and the 10th Amendment hasn’t been taken seriously since the Roosevelt administration.
Does ANYONE else see a pattern here? The very ‘foundation’ of our Republic and government is claimed (in the Declaration of Independence) to have been established “to secure these rights, Governments are instituted” yet contrary to this stated purpose, our government and the people we’ve trusted to carry out this “duty” have done just the opposite in violation of their Oath of Ofﬁce which states:
“I do solemnly swear (or afﬁrm) that I will support and defend the
Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and
domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same”
Do their (documentable) actions fulﬁll this Oath to “support and defend” our Constitution? Have they carried out their “duty” to us to where their purpose was so clearly deﬁned as “to secure these (OUR) rights”?
“Duty” and “true faith” are, apparently, quaint ideas (like our Constitution itself) who’s time is past. Our politicians, apparently, have some purpose other than being bound by their Oath and honor to protect our Rights.
Are we betrayed? - You decide.
